15 years of Impact from 2007 to 2022
Sustainable Development Strategies Group was founded in 2007 and has been making an impact on sustainable development of natural resources around the world ever since.
In 2022, we are celebrating our 15 years of accomplishments and the incredible worldwide network of SDSG supporters, friends, partners, advisors, consultants, teachers, interns, fellows, staff, Board of Directors and International Advisory Board members who have made it all happen! You can find all the details of this celebration here.
Since its inception, SDSG has focused on research, understanding and capacity building related to key problems in mining minerals and sustainable development.
One of those problems has, almost everywhere, been the problem of lack of understanding between mine developers and communities affected by mine development. This has in too many cases led to destructive conflict. It has too often led to damage to communities and the resources on which they depend, to projects that are unsuccessful from the private sector perspective, and to loss of development opportunities for government.
Dealing appropriately with affected communities is one of the central problems in ensuring that local residents achieve beneficial forms of development, rather than harm, from mineral development.
It is also central to the question of how the world is going to meet its growing demand for minerals, particularly minerals important for the transformation of our energy systems.
SDSG has been there, on the ground, studying the problems of communities everywhere from the tribal areas of Odisha State in India to Papua New Guinea, to the rainforest of Panama, Guinea, Mongolia’s Gobi Desert, and the American Southwest.
